Give Yourself the Competitive
Edge
Use food to make yourself
smarter.
Tip 1. Eat Blueberries.
This is the
one food that can actually increase brain cells, promoting
nerve cell production in a small part of the hypothalamus.
Tip 2. While you're in the
process of developing your resume and making connections, cut
way down on sugar and starch eating.
This isn't a fun suggestion,
but it can make an amazing difference. We don't realize the anesthetizing
effect of the brain chemicals that respond to sugar and starch.
These foods cause the release of endorphins--internal opiates--that
cause a dulling of sensation, brain fuzziness, and amnesia.
When you stop eating obvious
sugars like candy and desserts, and decrease simple carb intake,
these chemicals decline and you become smarter, quicker, and
much more able to respond well at that important interview.
You'll be amazed at how
much clearer your mind is.
Tip 3. The first week you
decrease sugar and starches, eat at least a half grapefruit in
the afternoon or evening if you can tolerate it.
Grapefruit will cut down
on withdrawal from anethetizing brain chemicals.
Tip 4. If you must have
sugar, restrict it to one dessert a day right after a meal, but
have a fruit first.
The fruit will help satisfy
the brain's craving and having the dessert with the meal will
prevent
a large blood sugar fluctuation.
Tip 5. If you like it, drink
at least one glass of soy milk each day as a between meal snack.
Giving your brain a quality
protein snack keeps brain repair steady and will help you have
consistent brain power.
Tip 6. You
know you should drink water to keep your brain hydrated.
And although too much
caffeine can work against you, one cup of tea or coffee before
an interview will expand blood flow to the brain.
Tip 7. Be
sure to have breakfast on any day you're working on your resume,
networking, or interviewing.
Keep
that blood sugar even so you won't have dull, stupid moments.
A soy milk smoothie with fruit is a great breakfast drink on
those days.
